Our First Team produced one of their 'Performances Of The Season' on Saturday, defeating promotion chasing Marehay by 42 runs, to end a long losing sequence and breath fresh life into their stuttering 2026 Division One campaign.

'New-boy' Rayan Yousaf was the star of the day, picking up 5/30 from his 10 fabulous overs to lead us to victory, and in doing so collected our latest 'Performance Of The Weekend Award.'

In just his second Sawley appearance, Rayan turned the screw on our hosts in the 23rd over of proceeding's. Marehay were looking comfortable at 111/2 at the start of the over, but Rayan had other ideas, and bowled an incredible 3-wicket-maiden to destroy Marehay's top order and leave them swiftly 111/5 at the end of the over.

Rayan then took 2 of the following 3 wickets to leave Sawley in command by the time he completed his spell.

Other nominations for this weeks award were - Charles Baines, who picked up another 3 wickets in that Marehay game - bowling well to take us home, trouble free; Kieran Hopkins, who returned to the 2nd team and finished unbeaten on 65 - his 3rd fifty of the season and highest score since 2019 for the club; M Gordon, who made 81 for the 3s at Quarndon in a tight contest - the 2nd time he has made 81 this season; Stuart Hubbard, who made a return to form, making a rapid 62 from 63 balls in that same game; and finally, an honourable mention for Charlie Dawson who made an unbeaten 50 in our friendly teams win at Woodhouse Eaves, on a difficult wicket and scorching hot day, he batted with real grit and purpose to help our young side to a morale-boosting success.

Well done to Rayan, and well played to all our nominees for the past weekend.
