In just a few hours time, the wait will finally be over and many of our members will be back playing the sport that has brought so many of us together for so many years.
The 2026 season is almost upon us. Our First Team, having already tasted some action last weekend in the National Cup, host Mickleover on West Park, our second team travel to Allestree whilst our fourth team are on The Park, facing Lullington Park and our third team will have to wait an extra day, facing Ashbourne on Sunday.
As has become customary on the eve of a new season, our Cricket Committee, led by the clubs Cricket Manager, Gary Birley would like to offer our membership some words of support and encouragement as we head into a new season...
Message from the cricket committee:
"With the first weekend of the 2026 cricket season nearly upon us, your cricket committee would like to wish all our teams and players the best of luck for the season ahead.
We would like to thank all players who have attended nets from the very beginning of the year, right through to as recently as this Wednesday. With winter training now coming to an end, it has been so pleasing to see so many of our players throughout all 4 of our senior sides putting in so much effort, hard work and commitment in preparation for the next 22 weeks ahead.
The schedule becomes relentless from here, with cup games, junior matches and training soon to be in full swing. To help make selection as easy as possible, could all players please ensure they vote on their relevant availability polls as soon as possible, and if you will be away, even weeks in advance, please let your Captain know.
We are pleased to announce that we will be bringing back the Sawley 'Performance of the weekend' award this season. This will be awarded to 1 player each week from any of our 4 sides. Furthermore, the winner will receive a bar voucher to spend at the club - alcoholic or non-alcoholic!
Off the field, we ask our members to please keep a look out for our upcoming social events, with a steady stream of events planned throughout the season by our new Social Committee.
This Saturday, we have a karaoke night, with food available at The Bill Camm Pavilion.
These events are important, not just as they help generate some income for the club, but perhaps more importantly, they help bring everyone together and keep the unity at Sawley CC which we believe is quite unique.
On the field, we ask players to play hard, but play fair and to represent our club in the best possible way. Strive to be the best we can be.
Finally, once again to all our sides, players, all our scorers, volunteers and everyone who helps in any capacity, in any of our teams...
Thank you and go well in 2026."
