A new name has been engraved on the Sawley CC Fantasy League Championship Trophy, as Luke Marriott and his Bucketbangers came out on top of the 36 strong field to claim first place!
Marriott fought of the challenge from El Michael Van Noshwen AKA Yatharth Parmar, and the surprise package of the season, Not out in the Toon (Rob Hardy) who rounded off an excellent debut season by claiming 3rd place and much like the Toon, entry into the Champions League and the riches that come with it.
Tom Pepper rounded off the top 4, whilst defending champion Danny Brown finished a lowly 5th place β scraping into the Europa Conference League. Brown is now under pressure after under performing during 2025 and at a recent game, his legion of supportersβ were seen holding a bed sheet aloft with the message βYouβre not even the best Brown to play this seasonβ¦ββ, whilst chants of βyouβre not fit to wear the shirt rung around Hickings Laneβ¦.
Anywayβ¦. moving on, Bo Davis finished in 6th place and to add to Brownβs misery, qualified for the Europa League ahead of Brown, due to Brown not sending an email or something like thatβ¦
At the bottom of the table, with no Martin Taylor this year, there were new wooden spoon candidates, Archie Chapmanβs U Rams propped up the league, but with almost 8000 points, thank you Archie for getting on board. Joβs Giants struggled for form throughout the season finishing 35th, with Clive Cartwight finishing in a creditable 34th position.
As ever, our all-rounders were the main points scorers, with the masterful Jimmy Lawton being the highest points scorer with a whopping 2756 points, an Aidan Meyer 2nd with 2110. Stuart Hubbard impressed throughout the year and was the 3rd highest points scorer with 1472. Matt Lyas was the top non all-rounder in the rankings in 4th, Nathan Hardy rounded a spectacular year in 5th followed by Mark Gordon in 6th with 1223 points.
Thank you to everyone who has played once again this year, apologies for the lack of updates during the season, but if anybody would like to do a monthly roundup in 2026, please feel free to contribute!
