The new Premier League football season began over the last weekend, and our popular ‘LPS’ competition is not far behind!

Since our final game of the 24/25 season, our Competition Manager Jeff Glover has departed for pastures new. Jeff got this Competition off the ground and ran it brilliantly, including through very turbulent times during Covid-19. This has provided valuable funds for the club, particularly through the dormant months of the cricket season when our income is almost none-existent. A huge thank you goes to Jeff for his outstanding efforts during his time at the club and we hope to see him back at West Park sometime in the near future.

With the framework of the Competition in place, we are delighted that another existing member of the Club has come forward to take on the duties of running the competition going forward.

Louise Lawton needs no introductions to anybody at Sawley Cricket Club, and we must thank Louise for taking on the mantle in becoming the new Competition Manager of our LPS game.

Therefore, starting from this coming Matchweek – our new LPS 25/26 game is up and running!

The rules remain the same, with entry still at just £5 per person, with 50% of the pot going directly to the Last Person Standing, whilst the other half goes into club funds.

Your £5 entry fee must be paid before the deadline, which is 2 hours before the kick-off of the first game of the weekend, which starts at 8pm on Friday evening with Chelsea visiting West Ham United – therefore your entry fee needs to be paid (in full) by 6pm on Friday evening – 22nd August.

1 rule to remember is if you progress in the competition but miss the deadline for your pick, you will automatically be entered into the game with the first team you have not chosen in alphabetical order, ie AFC Bournemouth, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brentford, etc…

It has always been a bit of a grumble that so few Sawley CC playing members participate in the competition, with many people outside of our membership supporting Jeff and the competition, so it would be fantastic with a clean start, if we could attract many more of our members to participate in the new seasons Last Person Standing!
