“From 2026 ALL Premier League and Division 1 Clubs will require to have a girls team participating in a League Programme…”

That is the message from the ECB.

This rule has been put back a year after initially planned for 2025. The DCCL have warned all clubs in the top 2 Divisions, along with sides in Division 2 – to be aware of this and to actively make plans in readiness.

With this in mind, the Main Committee at Sawley CC have looked into a number of ways to attempt to get a bona-fide side set up and ready in preparation for us to maintain our status in the top 2 divisions and ensure we are not relegated to Division 2 in 2026, regardless of how we perform on the pitch in 2025.

The entry level girls team is in Dynamos Cricket. Much like AllStars, this is a Nationally run programme, but alongside the 8 week training course, the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation run a succession of festivals – where teams play one another in a League style format – This is acceptable to meet the criteria of 2026.

We are running a girls only Dynamos Cricket course this year at West Park for girls aged 8-11, and we desperately need this to work for the club. The weekly course runs on a Wednesday evening.

Teams consist of 6-a-side for the games in the festivals which are held on Tuesday evenings.
